Although Apple has put a lot of effort to have the iPhone locked to one network operator there are quite a few unlocking methods so you can are able to use the iPhone with any network operator you like!
I will present some of the software based approaches. There are also the ones that require you to open the iPhone and do some soldering on the hardware but I will not go into detail on these as they are more for the real pro solderers out there.
Be warned: All of the approaches described on this site are done at your own responcibility! I don’t encourage anybody to unlock the iPhone.
1. anySIM
This is an Open Source iPhone unlocking software with a nice looking user interface. You just load the software to the phone, open it and slide the slider to unlock. This should be it. Download

2. iUnlock
iUnlock works without the graphical user interface so it is more for the technical advanced users that want to unlock their iPhones. You can download it here. Or if this is overloaded by the traffic, here.
